Spirit has been helping to promote homelessness charity St Mungo’s Woolly Hat Day in Bristol.
The annual campaign raises money to support the charity’s vital work through an online celebrity hat auction and by asking schools, workplaces and friends to sponsor each other to put hats on for homeless people.
St Mungo’s national PR team had generated the support of a number of high profile celebrities, so not to be outdone, we contacted the indie rock band Bloc Party, who were performing inBristol, to help raise the profile of the campaign in the city.
The band donated two tickets for their Bristol gig to the charity, tweeted about the event and pledged their support through a photo call which was covered in the Post and across local online press.
We also took a lead role in developing ideas for a Woolly Hat Day party at the St Mungo’s Compass Centre. The hat sporting guests were entertained by St Mungo’s choir who sang Wherever I Leave My Hat. They were also treated to a buffet lunch complete with Woolly Hat Day cupcakes.
A unique ‘human library’ also took place, allowing visitors to ‘borrow’ a St Mungo’s client, hear their story and find out about the impact the charity has had on their lives.
