An online animation art auction has raised £20,000 for Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal, following coverage in The Sunday Times, Guardian Online, Telegraph Online and the regional press.
The Sunday Times Culture carried a full page article following an interview Spirit set up for Aardman’s Nick Park. Online image galleries ran on both Guardian.co.uk and Telegraph.co.uk.
The auction was the brainchild of Kate Munkenbeck, PA to Nick Park, who said the coverage had been “absolutely incredible” and helped deliver record numbers of visitors to the Grand Appeal website and on to the eBay auction.
Nick’s specially created sketch of Wallace and Feathers McGraw (the Penguin) raised £5100 in the eBay auction. Other pieces included original drawings by Pete Docter (Up), Richard Williams (Who Framed Roger Rabbit) and Simon Tofield (Simon’s Cat) fetched more than £1500 each.
The auction was also widely featured in the regional media including ITV West, Venue, the Bristol Evening Post and local radio.
All proceeds from the auction will be used to support region’s Children’s Cardiac Unit at Bristol Children’s Hospital, including providing new, state of the art echocardiogram scanners to detect and monitor early heart defects in children.
